Solution Type Technical Instruction Sure Solution 1970913.1 : Server Disk Space Shortage Error due to user files in root (" / ") filesystem
In this Document
Created from <SR 3-10272221301> Applies to:BNS Platform Hardware - Version DSR 3.0 and laterInformation in this document applies to any platform. GoalWhen gathering log data or message captures, an Event 32312 MJ alarm indicating "Server Disk Space Shortage Error" is generated. How can this be prevented? SolutionIf a user logs into the DSR command line, the home directory will be /root (if logged in as root, pre-DSR 5.1) or /home/<username> (if logged in as 'admusr' or any other user) which exist in the " / " filesystem. This filesystem typically has only 1GB of disk space allocated to it. Executing certain scripts or utilizing certain system tools while in root's home directory will generally place the resultant data into the same location from which it was executed. As this data can be large, a significant percentage of any small filesystem may be consumed. As the utilization passes certain alarm thresholds, alarms will be raised in the GUI. The primary risk from excessive filesystem utilization comes when the server is rebooted--often abnormal behavior is encountered as the server attempts to recover from the reboot. To prevent these alarms and avoid any risk of excessive filesystem utilization, it is recommended that any user scripts or system tools executed from command line of any DSR server be executed from the /var/TKLC/db/filemgmt/ filesystem. This path assures that any resultant files generated by these scripts/tools will placed in the filesystem that has the largest amount of disk space allocated to it.
