DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS REMOVAL/REPLACEMENT INSTRUCTIONS If the system is still up and functioning, the customer should perform an orderly and graceful shutdown of applications and OS. Then power off the server and remove the AC power cords from the system. A data backup is not a prerequisite but is a wise precaution. NOTE: For ALL scenarios where an AC power down or AC power cycle is required for a T7-x server, please always use the steps in doc 1571054.1 prior to physically removing AC power cables from the server. DAMAGE ALERT: Perform a visual inspection of the replacement part to make sure that there are no damaged components, connectors, bent pins, damaged packages during shipping, etc). If the part is damaged, don't install it into the system, order a new part. Handle with caution and package carefully the return part to avoid any damages during shipping.
1. Prepare the server for service. a. Power off the server and disconnect the power cords from the power supplies. Replace the NVMe Cable Harness 1. Remove the Top Cover of system 2. Open the clear plastic air duct assembly cover by lifting the edge of the cover closest to the rear of the server. The cover can stand in its upright position but perform the next steps if you need to remove the cover: a. Open the fan cover. 3. Locate the four NVMe cable harness that runs from the PCIe switch card in Slot 3, across the cable bridge (this bridge prevents the cables from touching the processor) and to the pair of NVMe connectors; 0/1 (on the right) and 2/3 (on the left) of the disk backplane. Note - When you replace the NVMe cables on a SPARC T7-1 you need to replace the whole cable harness (all four NVMe cables) at once. You cannot replace just one NVMe cable. The NVMe cable harness P/N is 7089783.
4. Disconnect the bad NVMe cable harness (P/N: 7089783) from the PCIe Switch card in Slot 3 (which includes the four NVMe cables from their 0-3 connectors) and also from it's two corresponding connectors (NVMe 0-1 & NVMe 2-3) of the disk backplane. 5. Connect the new NVMe cable harness (P/N: 7089783) into the PCIe Switch card in Slot 3 (match the four NVMe cables with their corresponding 0-3 connectors) and run the cable hardness across the cable bridge to the two connectors (NVMe 0-1 & NVMe 2-3) of the disk backplane. 6. Close the clear plastic air duct assembly cover by rotating it down over the motherboard / two memory risers and then slightly pressing in the two tabs to secure it. See following if you need to reattach the cover: 7. Install the Top Cover of system 8. Return the Server to operation.
