Goal

This document describes the procedure to capture a support bundle for off-appliance upload to Oracle when automatic upload from the appliance is not available.

Both the browser user interface (BUI) method and command line interface (CLI) method are described.

Solution

BUI Method

Go to Maintenance -> System in the BUI.

Click the "+" next to Support Bundles, and provide a valid SR number.

Continue to monitor the progress of the running bundle(s) until the status shows 'Uploading' or 'Will retry', at which point the "X" next to the bundle should be clicked. Status will show as "Failed".

Download the bundle(s) to the system on which the browser is running by clicking on the downward-pointing arrow.

When complete, the bundle(s) can be uploaded via MOS or another valid method as described in "How to Upload Files to Oracle Support" (Doc ID 1547088.2).

 Screenshot indicating relevant BUI selections for a manual download.

CLI Method *

Start by connecting to the appliance kit command line (CLI).  Once connected, run the 'sendbundle' command as follows to initiate support bundle creation:

7320-a-head-1:maintenance system> sendbundle
A support bundle is being created and sent to Oracle. You will receive an alert
when the bundle has finished uploading. Please save the following filename, as
Oracle support personnel will need it in order to access the bundle:

   /upload/uuid/1e43e05e-ceb9-4095-c413-d21a0536d1ec/ak.1e43e05e-ceb9-4095-c413-d21a0536d1ec.tar.gz

Change to the 'bundles' subdirectory to obtain the name of the running bundle:

7320-a-head-1:maintenance system> bundles
7320-a-head-1:maintenance system bundles> show
Bundles:

BUNDLE                                     SRNUMBER          STATUS        PROGRESS
1e43e05e-ceb9-4095-c413-d21a0536d1ec       -                 Building      6  %

Select the running bundle and show its progress:

7320-a-head-1:maintenance system bundles> select 1e43e05e-ceb9-4095-c413-d21a0536d1ec

7320-a-head-1:maintenance system bundles 1e43e05e-ceb9-4095-c413-d21a0536d1ec> show
Properties:
                     filename = /upload/uuid/1e43e05e-ceb9-4095-c413-d21a0536d1ec/ak.1e43e05e-ceb9-4095-c413-d21a0536d1ec.tar.gz
                       status = building
                         date = 2014-12-18 23:42:38
                         type = User initiated
                step_progress = 12.5

Continue to monitor the progress of the running bundle until the status shows 'uploading':

7320-a-head-1:maintenance system bundles 1e43e05e-ceb9-4095-c413-d21a0536d1ec> show
Properties:
                     filename = /upload/uuid/1e43e05e-ceb9-4095-c413-d21a0536d1ec/ak.1e43e05e-ceb9-4095-c413-d21a0536d1ec.tar.gz
                       status = uploading
                         date = 2014-12-18 23:42:38
                         type = User initiated
                step_progress = 7.808788094494636

Once the upload has started, cancel it:

7320-a-head-1:maintenance system bundles 1e43e05e-ceb9-4095-c413-d21a0536d1ec> cancel
7320-a-head-1:maintenance system bundles 1e43e05e-ceb9-4095-c413-d21a0536d1ec> show
Properties:
                     filename = /upload/uuid/1e43e05e-ceb9-4095-c413-d21a0536d1ec/ak.1e43e05e-ceb9-4095-c413-d21a0536d1ec.tar.gz
                       status = failed
                         date = 2014-12-18 23:42:38
                         type = User initiated

 *Since the BUI is the sole method available to download a failed bundle locally, Oracle Support should be engaged for local bundle retrieval via the CLI if the BUI is unavailable.

The method for Oracle Support personnel to retrieve the bundle via the CLI would involve dropping to the support shell and either:

1) copying the required bundles from /var/ak/bundles to /export/<sharename>, then having the customer attach to the SR (or ftp to Oracle)

OR

2) using the file transfer functionality of Oracle Shared Shell to copy the required bundles from /var/ak/bundles to the TSE's local host
