Goal

Replace HP server controller card battery.

Solution

High level step to follow during Controller card Battery replacments.

  • Onsite support is required to complete this activity.
  • The onsite person requires no hardware-specific training to replace the defective part. But should have familiarity with system hardware and software requiring repair.
  1. Power down the server
  2. Remove the server from rack/blade
  3. Remove the access panel
  4. Disconnect the BBWC cable from the cache module(For Blade servers only). In the case of rack mount servers disassemble the Controller card and replace the batteries(Child and Parent batteries).
  5. Replace the battery pack (Connect the BBWC cable from the cache module for Blade servers CAUTION: To prevent damage to the cache module during installation, be sure the cache module is correctly inserted before pressing down)
  6. Replace the battery pack (For rack mount servers put back the controller card with new batteries).
  7. Place the access panel and put the server blade back
  8. Power up the server

Once the server is up, do a heath check by giving following command if you have the login credentials.

As root:
>syscheck
>hpacucli ctrl all show status

Battery may take time to fully charge.
