Applies to:

Oracle Communications EAGLE (Software) - Version EMS 43.x to EMS 44.x [Release EMS 43.0 to EMS 44.0]
Tekelec

Goal

The EMS Tape Drive is not working.
Customer wants to know if there is any backup file that can be transferred via FTP to some other server.

Solution

Perform Following Steps:
1. Issue the commands to export the contents of the Netboss database to the $ANMDIR/fms/dbunload/export.exp file

$ANMDIR/misc/db_backup

You will get following messages:
  Performing Database Backup...
  Backup Finished.
  View /tmp/db_backup.out for details.

2. Run command:
cd $ANMDIR/fms/dbunload

3. Run Command:
ls –al
  total 27168
  -rw-r--r-- 1 netboss netboss 13900800 Sep 17 00:30 export.exp

Make sure that export.exp file is present with current date.

4. You can copy this file to any place of your choice via FTP.

NOTE:
The export.exp file contains the DB backup that is then written on tape.
The 4mm tape backup also contains the backup of filesystems. So it is more elaborate.
Presently there is no script to do same backup to some other server instead of tape.
As EMS is EOL product; so no future enhancements planned.

export.exp file is used to recreate a db from scratch. This operation is done by Oracle engineer and is not performed by customer.
If such a case arise; Oracle will share what steps it will perform to recreate the DB.
