DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS

WHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED:
No specific training required.  This is a Customer Replaceable Unit (CRU).

TASK COMPLEXITY: 0

TIME ESTIMATE: 30 minutes

FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR INSTRUCTIONS

TOOLS REQUIRED: N/A

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :

For non-redundant power configurations the system will need to be down.  For redundant power configurations the system may remain up

WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE:

If you determine that the platform has redundant power, it is recommended to follow the redundant power supply procedure below instead of powering off the system.  After replacing the affected power cords cut the female end of the cord off at least 4 inches from the plug and disposed of both pieces of the cord so they cannot be re-used.

If the system does not have redundant power supplies:

  1. Ensure the entire platform is shutdown and powered off
  2. Unplug all power cords from the source power (male) end at the same time
  3. Unplug the power cords from the platform (female end)
  4. Replace the power cords by plugging the female end into the platform first

If the platform does have redundant power supplies:

  1. Ensure all power supplies are providing power and functioning normally
  2. Unplug  the first power cord from the source power (male) end first
  3. Unplug the first power cord from the platform (female) end
  4. Replace the power cord by plugging  the female end into the platform first
  5. Ensure that all power supplies are again providing power and functioning normally
  6. Repeat steps 1 – 5 for each suspected power cord on the platform

Replacing cords which are connecting the rack power strips to datacenter power

  1. Determine which systems have redundant power across the rack power strips
  2. Poweroff systems that do not have redundant power across rack power strips
  3. Unplug the first rack power strip cord by unplugging the source power (male) end first
  4. Replace the power cord by plugging in the female end into the rack power strip first
  5. Ensure redundant power has been restored to all redundant systems in the rack
  6. Repeat steps 2-5 for each affected rack strip power cord
  7. Restart any systems powered off in step 2

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE

WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:

For non-redundant power configurations the system will need to be powered on.  For redundant power configurations there is no action necessary
