Solution

DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS

- WHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER NEED:
T5440 product training or field experience with other CMT servers.

- TIME ESTIMATE: 50 minutes

- TASK COMPLEXITY: 1

FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS:
- PROBLEM OVERVIEW:
Replace Hard Drive Backplane

- WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE
RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?:

Customer to ensure full verified backups of all data and operating systems potentially affected by service activities, this includes backup of Logical Domain (LDOM) configuration.

The system needs to be shut down and powered off with power cables disconnected.

- WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:

Remove the Hard Drive Backplane

■ Power off the server
■ Extend the Server to the Maintenance Position
■ Perform Electrostatic Discharge – Antistatic Prevention Measures
■ Remove the Top Cover
■ Remove a Hard Drives
Note – You must remove all four hard drives from the server. Note the location of each hard drive you remove. You must re-install each hard drive in the correct bay.

■ Remove a Fan Tray
Note – You must remove all four fan trays.
■ Remove the Fan Tray Carriage
Do the following:
1. Remove the flex cable retainer. Loosen the captive No.2 Phillips screw and lift the retainer up and out of the chassis.
2. Unplug the cable from the hard drive backplane.
3. Loosen the three captive No. 2 Phillips screws.
4. Lift the backplane up and out of the system.

Install the Hard Drive Backplane
1. Lower the hard drive backplane into the system. Align the tab on the lower edge the backplane with the corresponding slot in the chassis floor.
2. Tighten the three captive No. 2 Phillips screws.
3. Plug the cable into its connector on the backplane.
4. Install the flex cable retainer. Place the retainer into position and tighten the captive No.2 Phillips screw.
5. Install the Fan Tray Carriage, Fan tray, CMP/Memory module
6. Install top Coverand and install all Hard disks.

Note - You must install the hard drives in the correct slots.

7. Slide the Server into the Rack
8. Power on the system.


OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE

- WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:

Boot system and monitor boot sequence for errors. Test functionality of system:
1. Run the Solaris "fmadm faulty" and SP/ILOM "show faulty" command (if only ALOM is supported run "showfaults -v" command) to verify that the fault has been cleared.
2. Perform one of the following tasks based on your verification results:
   * If the previous steps did not clear the fault, refer to doc 1004229.1 for information about the tools and methods you can use to diagnose and clear component faults.
   * If the previous steps indicate that no faults have been detected, then the component has been replaced successfully. No further action is required
3. Restart software applications per applicable administration guides to resume system operation.
