The purpose of this document is to outline the steps required to replace an IO Module in an FS1-2 Drive Enclosure using Guided Maintenance

Solution

DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS

WHAT SKILLS DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED?:

Product knowledge, FS1-2 Flash Storage System

  TIME ESTIMATE: 45 minutes

  TASK COMPLEXITY: 0

FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR INSTRUCTIONS:

  PROBLEM OVERVIEW:

WHAT: A Drive Enclosure Input/Output (IO) Module in an FS1-2 has failed and needs to be replaced

WHERE: FS1-2 Drive Enclosure location and IO Module location should be in event log

WHY: The IO Module has failed.

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?:

All Drive Enclosure configurations have redundant IO Modules.  The redundant IO Module must be healthy in order to replace this component without disruption.

NOTE: The DE2-24C and DE2-24P uses the same IO Module.

NOTE: Please review the Knowledge <Document 1942676.1> FS System: How to Disable Call Home to Prevent Automatic Service Request ASR Generation before proceeding with the procedure below. The steps contained therein are provided to allow an Administrator to de-activate a particular ASR enabled array while performing maintenance or troubleshooting. This will prevent any additional Service Requests from being created unnecessarily.

WHAT ACTION DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE?:

  1. Disable Call-Home to prevent spurious alerts -(see <Document 1942676.1> FS System: How to disable Call Home to prevent Automatic Service Request ASR Generation).
  2. For awareness and before proceeding please review <Document 2124209.1> FS System: An Enclosure IO Module lists a Different Firmware Revision than other IO Modules.
  3. Use ESD precautions
  4. Log into Oracle FS System Manager to access Guided Maintenance:
    1. Select System tab.
    2. In the navigation tree, expand Hardware and select Drive Enclosures
    3. In the main window, double click on the Drive Enclosure with failed IO Module.
    4. In the pop-up Modify window, select the failed IO Module and then Replace Component button.
    5. Follow the steps in Guided Maintenance to identify and replace the failed IO Module.
  5. When finished, re-enable Call-Home.

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE

WHAT ACTION DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE?:

Confirm that replacement IO Module is seen by the FS1-2 Flash Storage System and the system has reverted to a normal/green state.
