Goal

This document provides Solaris specific steps and remarks for upgrading Oracle Database and Oracle Grid Infrastructure to 11.2.0.4 on Solaris x86-64 (Exadata) and Solaris SPARC (Oracle SuperCluster) according to <Note 1565291.1> .

Note: Customers upgrading to 11.2.0.4 on Solaris are advised to start with the detailed instructions in <Note 1565291.1> and follow the links to appropriate sections in this document

This document provides additional instructions for upgrading Oracle Database and Oracle Grid Infrastructure from release 11.2.0.2, 11.2.0.3 to 11.2.0.4 on Oracle Exadata Database Machine and 11.2.0.3 to 11.2.0.4 on Oracle SuperCluster.

Solaris-specific software requirements and recommendations

Database servers running Oracle 11.2.0.4 on Solaris x86-64 require min Exadata Storage Server Version 11.2.3.2.1 and Oracle Solaris 11 SRU 8.5.
Current recommended Solaris Version on Solaris x86-64 Exadata database servers can be found in <Note 2121725.1>

Solaris-specific guidelines for GI software installation prerequisite check failure

Ignore following Prereq Checks for GI HOME and RDBMS HOME on Exadata/SSC (<Note 1511006.1> and <BUG 17346500>):

Network Time Protocol (NTP) - This task verifies cluster time synchronization on clusters that use Network Time Protocol (NTP). Error:
PRVF-5436 : The NTP daemon running on one or more nodes lacks the slewing option "'slewalways yes' & 'disable pll'"
- Cause: NTP daemon on one or more nodes lacked slewing option.
Solaris IPMP group fail-over consistency check - This is a check to verify the current selection of public and private network classifications is consistent with network interfaces in fail-over dependency of an IPMP group Error:
PRVG-1539 : The IPMP interfaces classified as private interconnection do not belong to the private subnet on nodes ...
- Cause: The IPMP interfaces classified as private interconnection were found to have different subnet on the indicated nodes.

Ignore following Prereq Checks for GI HOME and RDBMS HOME on Oracle SuperCluster:

PRVG-2016 : "search" and "domain" entries coexist in file "/etc/resolv.conf" on node ...
- Cause: Both ''search'' and ''domain'' entries were found in resolv.conf file on the node specified.

Solaris-specific workaround required before running rootupgrade.sh on Oracle SuperCluster

Note: <BUG 17065496> is fixed in 11.2.0.4 BP1+ but the corresponding one <BUG 17837626> SOLARIS SPARC SUPERCLUSTER EXADATA ROOTUPGRADE TO 11.2.0.4 FAILS AT HAIP STARTUP will cause rootupgrade.sh to fail on Oracle SuperCluster.

On all database servers in Oracle SuperCluster execute following commands before rootupgrade.sh if /opt/oracle.cellos/imageinfo doesn't exist.

(root)# echo "echo \"Kernel version: 5.11 11.1\"" >/opt/oracle.cellos/imageinfo
(root)# chmod 755 /opt/oracle.cellos/imageinfo

After successful execution of rootupgrade.sh on all database servers in Oracle SuperCluster undo the previous step if the above workaround was applied

(root)# rm -rf /opt/oracle.cellos/imageinfo
