Goal

How to recover from a corrupted Sun Netra X4250 SP firmware when ILOM serial console is not accessible

Solution

Steps to recover from a corrupted Sun Netra X4250 SP firmware.

Tools Required.
- Bootable USB Flash Device.
- Jumper block pin (used to disable the SP).

Steps:
1) Copy all files located in the SPrecovery directory located on the Tools & Drivers CD Version to the Flash Device.
  SOCFLASH.EXE
  DOS4GW
SP firmware binary file (eg 41106.bin)

2) Remove AC Power from the system to be recovered.

3) Short Pins 1 and 2 of Jumper block J19 using the jumper. This block is located between the second and third PCI Express slot, and is directly under the RAID card.

4) Insert the bootable Flash device and boot the system.(NOTE: It may take up to 5 minutes for the system to boot, as it depends on the amount of RAM in the system)

5) A message will appear stating BMC not found.

6) Press F2 to enter BIOS and verify that the Flash Device is listed in the boot order.

7) Once the system boots from the USB Device run the following command.
    socflash.exe <SP binary file> backup.bin
eg using SP firmware version 41106.bin
    socflash.exe 41106.bin backup.bin

8) After a successful flash operation, remove AC Power for approx 30 seconds, and then remove the jumper.

9) Power on the system and verify that the SP is updated/restored. (The information can be seen in the POST screens or the BIOS)
