Goal

How to Replace a Sun Server X2-4, X2-8, X3-2, X3-2L, X4-2L, X4-4, X4-8 Internal RAID HBA BBU.

Solution

DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS

WHAT SKILLS DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED:
No special skills required, Customer Replaceable Unit (CRU) procedure

TIME ESTIMATE: 60 minutes

TASK COMPLEXITY: 0

FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR INSTRUCTIONS:

PROBLEM OVERVIEW: A Sun Server X2-4, X2-8, X3-2, X3-2L, X4-2L, X4-4, X4-8 Internal RAID HBA BBU needs replacement

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :

A data backup is not a pre-requisite but is a wise precaution.
The customer should conduct an orderly software system shutdown.

Then power down the system and disconnect the Power Cord.


- WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:


1. Powering off the system and disconnect the power cords from the system

2. Remove the top cover

3. Remove the PCI Riser from server if applicable not all Sun Server's use PCI Risers.

4. Remove SAS HBA from PCI Riser or server PCI slot and place the card on an antistatic mat.

5. Replace the battery module on the card with spare battery module

a. With a Phillips-head screwdriver, loosen the three screws that are securing
the battery to the HBA.
b. Place the screws aside and pull up on the battery to disconnect the battery
connector from the HBA connector (JT3B1).
c. Obtain the new battery and carefully press the battery onto the HBA to join
the battery connector to the HBA connector (JT3B1).
d. Secure the battery to the HBA by tightening the three screws from Step b
into the holes on the HBA.

6. Install SAS HBA into the PCI Riser or server if applicable not all Sun Server's use PCI Risers.

7. Install the top cover

8. Connect the power cords and power on the system

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE
- WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO
AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
