Goal

Generic procedure on how to replace Lithium Coin Cell Battery on ZFS Storage Appliance.
 

Solution

Servicing the Battery

Note: Please refer to the reference documents for detailed plan:

Removing the Battery

  1. Prepare the server for service.
    1. Power off the server.
    2. Disconnect the power cord (or cords) from the power supply (or supplies).
    3. Slide the server out of the rack.
    4. Attach an antistatic wrist strap.
    5. Remove the top cover.
  2. Remove the PCIe riser if needed.
  3. Press the latch and remove the battery from the motherboard.
    1. Use a small (No. 1 flat-blade) non-metallic screwdriver or equivalent.
    2. Notice the location/facing of (+) sign on the battery. As new battery will be inserted in the same position.

 

Installing the Battery

  1. Unpack the replacement battery.
  2. Press the new battery into the motherboard.  Battery should be inserted in the same position as it was installed before.
  3. Install PCIe riser (if needed) with any associated cards.

 

Return the server to operation.

  1. Install the top cover.
  2. Slide the server into the the rack.
  3. Reconnect the power cord (or cords) to the power supply (or supplies).  Verify that the AC Present LED is lit.
  4. Power on the server.

 

Use the BIOS Setup Utility to update the System Time and System Date

or ... Reset the ILOM clock using the ILOM CLI or the web interface. For instructions, see the ILOM 3.0 Documentation Collection.

 

 

NOTE: Once the Coin Cell battery has been replaced on a ZFS Storage Appliance, please check/confirm the required BIOS settings.
