Goal

To clarify the purpose of the MSUser on an Exadata Database machine.

Solution

What is purpose of the MSUser?

The MSUser account exists on the Storage Server's ILOM.  The account is used by the Exadata Storage Server Software to manage the ILOM and reset it if it detects a hang.

Can the password be changed for security reasons?

There is NO default password.  The user is created with a random password upon service startup and the password is only valid throughout one session and is not persisted anywhere.  Upon MS service restart, MSUser will be assigned a new random password.  Users should not change the password, otherwise, the automatic ILOM monitoring capability will be compromised.
