Sun Blade X6275 Server Module - Version All Versions and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.
Caution – Do not remove or insert the blades with flash module until the green LED goes out. Damage to the flash module can occur if the FMOD is installed while the green LED is lit.

Goal

Sun Blade X6275, FMOD may become unavailable due to unscheduled power outage.

Steps for resolving the issue are listed on solution section.

Solution

The 24GB SATA-based Sun Flash Modules (FMOD) on Sun Blade X6275 may become unavailable due to unscheduled power outage.

Care must be taken when you remove/replace blades, or power on/off chassis. After power cycling a Sun Blade X6275 server module node, the system might not be able to find the Flash Modules (FMODs). If the flash module is the boot device with an installed operating system, the system will fail to boot.

Caution – Do not remove or insert the blades with flash module until the green LED goes out. Damage to the flash module can occur if the FMOD is installed while the green LED is lit.

Workaround
1. Please wait at least 20 second between each AC power cycle, blade insertion/removal. If it is not followed it will damage the FMOD. Same applies to quickly power on and power off the full C48 self.

2. When the blades are put in the chassis for the first time, please wait 2 minutes before pulling it out or shutting is down. Never pull out a blade and insert it right away. This is the time required to charge the supercaps.Same applies when the shelf or blade is powered down for some time.

When the blade is inserted it should not be pulled out quickly (before 2 minutes)

3. In case the FMOD gets corrupted, please use the utility sdfload to perform a low level format.
Download sdfload utility and review the sdfload utility user guide on Patch 12895531, X6275 SERVER SW 2.7.

The sdfload utility can be mounted to ILOM RKVM and booted to DOS by creating floppy boot image.

4. Once the format is done, pull out the blade to AC power cycle the blade. Please wait 2 minutes before plugging the blade in.

5. In case FMOD can not be recovered by using sdfload utility, next step would be to replace affected FMOD.
