TIME ESTIMATE: 30 minutes

TASK COMPLEXITY: 2

FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS:

PROBLEM OVERVIEW:

PCI card Failure

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?:

A data backup is not a pre-requisite but is a wise precaution.

While it is not impossible to utilize Dynamic Reconfiguration (DR) for this replacement, it's not likely that it can be used because all I/O Device paths would have the be redundantly configured and you could not be booted off this I/O Board.
This "canned" action plan focuses on replacing aPCI card when not able to utilize DR, because this is the majority of situations.

WHAT ACTION DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE?

1. Attach a wrist strap or foot strap. Connect the ESD strap to the system.
Place a grounded ESD mat close to the system.

2. Remove the I/O assembly from the system and place it on an ESD mat.

     Caution:
To prevent the system from overheating, insert a filler panel to cover the
     open I/O slot.

3. Remove the PCI card by removing the Phillips screw and pulling the PCI card out
   of the slot

4. Line up the screw hole on the mounting bracket with the mounting hole.

5. Slide the card down vertically between the two embossed fixtures on the front of
   the PCI panel.
Look for bumps between the slots on the rear panel. Slide the card in between the
   bumps.

7. Apply equal pressure on both sides of the card until the card is seated in the
   connector.

8. Insert and tighten the Phillips screw.

9. Make sure that filler boards are in all unused slots on the I/O assembly.

WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE: n/a
