Solution

DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS

WHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER NEED:
General Sun x86 servers hardware knowledge.

Some awareness of the differences between FB-DIMM's (Fully Buffered) As compared to conventional DDRx DIMM's

TIME ESTIMATE: 30 Minutes

TASK COMPLEXITY: 0 (CRU)

FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS

PROBLEM OVERVIEW:
Replace a specific FB-DIMM. *CAUTION* : FB-DIMM's are ordered, installed and replaced in PAIRS ONLY. Even if only one DIMM is being called out as faulty, you must replace both the faulty FB-DIMM and it's pair. (See the Memory Population Rules on the System Cover Label or Service Manual for more information

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?

Use Solaris Fault Management (FMA) commands such as:
#fmadm faulty
#fmdump -v

And/Or ILOM Fault Management (May or may not be present depending on fault type, system model and firmware version)
->show /SP/Faultmgmt

A clean shutdown is strongly recommended, but leave this to the customer's prerogative.

WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:

BEFORE ANYTHING ELSE -- OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE

0. CONFIRM THE FAULT AND FAULTY PART LOCATION.
1. Make sure it is possible to completely pull out the server out of its rack, if racked. Some cables may need to be disconnected from the rear of the system if there is no Cable Management Arm (CMA) installed.
It's a good idea to label all cables if they are not already to ensure we replace them where they came from.
2. Remove the power cords, pull server from rack, and remove the top cover.
3. Locate the FB DIMMs to be replaced. (Press the Fault remind button in the rear left corner. NOTE - Fault Remind may or may not light on     the DIMM depending on the type of fault being reported.)
4. Remove DIMM By pressing down/out on locking tabs and lifting straight out.
5. Ensure the replacement DIMM is the same P/N as the removed part.
6. Line up the notch, press DIMM straight down firmly but gently until both tabs lock. If resistance occurs, remove dimm, check alignment and try again.
7. Replace top cover, push in the server into its racks, reconnect all the unplugged cables and then
8. Plug both power cords back in, allow ILOM to boot fully before attempting to power Host back on. (Power LED goes "slow blink" when ILOM is done booting and host enters standby. Power LED ~MAY~ blink fast during ILOM boot as well.)

WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
1. Monitor the system via any preferred means - VGA Monitor, Java Remote Console and/or ILOM CLI (via SSH or Serial).
2. Power on the system by any preferred means (Power button, ILOM CLI ->start /SYS command, or ILOM WebGUI Remote control tab ->       Remote Power Control Tab
3. Any Faults logged by ILOM Fault Management should clear automatically after POST. If this does not happen, clear the faults manually
See - http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E19464-01/820-6850-11/ILOM30.html#50602037_70908
4. If The Host OS is solaris, Check the #fmadm faulty command and clear any memory related faults as necessary.
5. OPTIONAL - Run additional testing via ILOM PC-Check (ILOM 3.0.6.x and newer), the System Diagnostics CD/DVD (if applicable), or Oracle VTS. See KM#1565986.1
6. Verify the total memory available is correct, and check for any new memory related errors.

PARTS NOTES:
Heatsink 310-0185 is pregreased with Shin-Etsu X23-7783D.
The System Board FRU includes a mounting tray, four 250-1802 Cleaning
Wipes, and four 310-0065 Thermal Grease Syringes.
When removing the system board, unfasten the four green bus bar screws, not the
four silver bus bar screws that connect bus bar 341-4245 to the system board.
DIMM's are ordered, installed and replaced in matched pairs ONLY! If only one DIMM is being called out as faulty, you MUST replace both the faulty DIMM and it's pair. Check the Memory installation rules on the system cover label or in the Server Documentation, or contact the HW TSE for assistance.
