Goal

Qn1:How many HDAs can you lose in a VSM5 in a 32 drive configuration before potential data loss?

Solution

1. With a VSM with 32 drives (RAID6), you can lose two drives anywhere and still have all of your production drives in each array, but no spares available.
2. If you lose two more production drives within a logical array while your spares are in use, you still maintain error correction and no loss of data.
3. If you lose a 3rd drive within a logical array you now have a data loss situation.

Note - So you can loose 4 drives and still operate in a 32 drive configuration, but do not ever let the VSM get to that point.
