StorageTek T10000C Tape Drive - Version All Versions to All Versions [Release All Releases]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Goal

T10000C - RO (Recording Ops) Code Information.

Solution

It is highly recommended to run the T10KC drives with the “0xED” version.

When 1.51.320 code was released the same 0xED RO firmware was packaged along with the 1.51.320 functional drive code.

Note that 1.51.320 code was NEVER tested with the downrev (0xE5) RO firmware. It was ONLY tested with the 0xED RO version.

If you have a drive running on 1.51.320 code base (which includes any special build that used 1.51.320 code as a base) you need to confirm that you have the “0xED” version firmware running in your RO chip.

To verify the RO version running in the drive do the following:

1)      Connect to the drive with VOP

2)      Select Retrieve>View Drive Data>Version

3)      The RO version should be displayed.

An example would be: 3600ed01. This would be the 0xED version. If you see e5 in the third byte then you are running on the 0xE5 version.

If you find that your drive needs to have the RO version updated simply download the 1.52.320 (or higher) code file and unzip it. Load the file called 151320_ro_hdwr_s4_E0004199.abin as you would normally load functional code into a drive.

T10000C  - All EC releases and all posted .zip files for T10KC code do and always will contain two .abin images. One will be the functional code image and the other will be the RO firmware image. Both need to be applied during code upgrades in order to maintain compatible and fully tested T10KC code/s. This requires two file installations upon upgrade of codes. These can be applied in either order but do require two separate code load steps which also follows with two separate drive IPL’s.

The RO code file updates the program in the RO (recording ops) hardware chip in the drive. This chip controls the read and write recording sequencing for the drive. The code was modified in the 1.51.318 release. There are only 2 versions of this code file to date. (E5 and ED) The ED version is the current release.

Original EC release of 1.51 318 T10000C code contained an RO firmware image version of 0xE5.

A subsequent EC released an updated version of RO firmware (0xED) to replace 0xE5 and combine that with 1.51.318 functional code.
