Information in this document applies to any platform.

Goal

System fans are continuously operating at 100% ,the system fans begin to generate loud noise when the system enters POST and probes the PCI boards. The System fans
will continue to operate at the same level even when the system completes loading the operating system.

In the Following Example

"Flash Accelerator F40" cards were installed at "Slot 2 and Slot 3"

Boot Up Console

Hypervisor version: @(#)Hypervisor 1.12.5.b 2014/02/07 13:50

Which is then followed by:
NOTICE: Entering OpenBoot.
NOTICE: Fetching Guest MD from HV.
NOTICE: Starting additional cpus.
NOTICE: Initializing LDC services.
NOTICE: Probing PCI devices.
NOTICE: Finished PCI probing. <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< System FAN begins to operate at maximum level


When the "Flash Accelerator F40" card is removed from the system, The system FANS will operate normal level.(No more Noise)

Solution

The "Flash Accelerator F40" must be installed in the following Sequence Slot Sequence: Slot 1,Slot 8, Slot 2 and Slot 7. The maximum number of "Flash Accelerator F40" card supported on a SPARC T5-2 is four, Once the "Flash Accelerator F40" are installed in the recommended sequence the system fans will operate at the normal level.

 "Flash Accelerator F80" must be installed in the following Sequence "1, 8 ,2, 7, 3, 6, 4, 5".
