FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR INSTRUCTIONS:

PROBLEM OVERVIEW: A Sun Server X4-4 Server Processor (SP) Daughter Card Assembly needs replacement

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :

Shut down system and Power down the server.
When servicing the components in this section, unplug the AC power cords and use ESD protection.

WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:

1. Positioning the Server for Maintenance

2. Removing the Server Top Cover

* Caution - Removing the top cover without properly powering down the server and disconnecting the AC power cords from the power supplies will result in a chassis intrusion switch failure. This failure causes the server to be immediately powered off.

3. Remove the SP ( Service Processor )

a. Disconnect the SP card cable.
b. The SP card is mounted on the motherboard between the two groups of PCIe slots.
c. Completely loosen the green captive screw on the top of the SP card.
d. To remove the SP card, disconnect it by pulling it upward and then lift it out of the server.

4. Install the SP ( Service Processor )

a. Position the SP card with the two motherboard connectors facing downward. The green captive screw head faces upward.
b. Align the connectors on the bottom of the SP card with the connectors on the motherboard.
c. Use the screw hole and card mounting bracket to assist with the alignment. When correctly positioned, the mounting bracket cradles the edges of the card.
d. To engage the two connectors, gently push the card downward at the two green pressure points on the edges of the card.
e. Connect the SP card cable to the connector on the SP Card.
f. To secure the card, tighten the green captive screw.
