 How to Replace a Sun Server X4-4 Internal USB Flash Drive.

No special skills required, Customer Replaceable Unit (CRU) procedure

FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR INSTRUCTIONS:

PROBLEM OVERVIEW: A Sun Server X4-4 Internal USB Flash Drive needs replacement

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :

WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE:

1. Prepare the server for service.

Power off the server and disconnect the power cords from the power supplies.
Extend the server to the maintenance position in the rack.
Attach an anti-static wrist strap.
Remove the top cover.

2. Locate and Remove the Internal USB Flash Drive

The Internal USB Flash Drive connectors are located behind the Disk Backplane in X4-4 , see diagram below 

To remove a USB flash drive, grasp it and pull it out of the internal USB port.
Make sure to note the USB drive's location and orientation in the USB connector so that the replacement can be reinstalled in the same location
Place the USB drive on an anti-static mat.

3. Install the replacement Internal USB Flash Drive

Remove the replacment USB Flash Drive from it's packaging and place on an anti-static mat.
Insert the USB flash drive into the internal USB port making sure to insert it into the same location and in the same orientation as the drive that was removed.
Reinstall the small plastic cover over the USB drive location.

4. Return the Server to operation

Replace the top cover
Remove any anti-static measures that were used.
Return the server to it's normal operating position within the rack.
Re-install the AC power cords and any data cables that were removed.
Power on server. Verify that the Power/OK indicator led lights steady on.
Verify that the newly installed Internal USB Flash Drive is seen by the server and that the system boots properly.
If you have replaced the Oracle System Assistant USB flash drive, you can restore the Oracle System Assistant image onto the new USB device. For instructions, refer to the "Restore Oracle System Assistant" section of the Sun Server X4-4 Administration Guide.

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE

WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:

Boot up system and verify full functionality
