This document is a demonstration of how to upgrade the SPARC T5-4 server and T5-8 server Processor Module (PM) configuration.

Solution

This document shows the following PM upgrades:

• How to upgrade the SPARC T5-4 server from a two-processor (1 PM) configuration, half populated configuration, to a four-processor (2 PM) configuration.
• How to upgrade the SPARC T5-8 server from a four-processor (2 PM) configuration, half populated configuration, to an eight-processor (4 PM) configuration.

The upgrade procedure involves the following steps:

1. Prepare the processor modules.
2. Prepare the server.
3. Remove the processor filler modules.
4. Install the processor modules.
5. Return the server to operation.
6. Understand the root complex changes.
7. Understand PCIe load balancing changes.
8. Additional resources.
