Solution

The Acme Packet product Bootloader files are contained in the Software Patch for each specific Hardware Platform.

The steps below will supply you with connection to the bootloader files.

  1. Select “Patches and Updates”
  2. Select “Product or Family Advanced Search”
  3. Select Product - examples below - such as Acme Packet 3900 (see below for other examples)
     Bootloader_3900_selection
  4. You will see a list of various Patches related to your search.
    Bootldr_patch_menu
  5. Select the one for the specific hardware platform that you are running.
(In this case we are using the AP3900 as an example)
     Bootldr_Patch_ID
  6. After you download the file, you can open the zipfile to reveal the contents.
    File_Contents
  7. Extract the .boot file and proceed with the upgrade instructions per the Release Notes.

NOTE 7.4 boot loader(stage 3) are no longer backward compatible.
So after upgrading to SCz7.4.0 software image, if you plan on down grading to a 7.3 or a 7.2 image, make sure you use the correct stage 3 boot loader corresponding to 7.3 and 7.2 respectively.

The boot loader and run-time image share a lot of code and consequently have dependencies which the runtime image assumes. Hence, it is recommended that the boot loader and run time image share the same major/minor number. Thus, a 7.3.x runtime image should be using a 7.3 boot loader; similarly, a 7.4.x run time image should be using a 7.4 boot loader.
