Solution Type Technical Instruction Sure Solution 1640477.1 : Sun ZFS Storage Appliance : Understanding the Configured Timezone
In this Document
Created from <SR 3-8713013471> Applies to:Sun Storage 7310 Unified Storage System - Version All Versions and laterSun Storage 7110 Unified Storage System - Version All Versions and later Sun Storage 7410 Unified Storage System - Version All Versions and later Sun ZFS Storage 7420 - Version All Versions and later Sun ZFS Storage 7320 - Version All Versions and later 7000 Appliance OS (Fishworks) GoalIn this document we discuss about the Timezone on the ZFS Storage Appliance (ZFSSA) In a geographically distributed environment, an administrator may need to check the date/time on the storage when reviewing reported events in Maintenance Logs :
Also it may be required to check the time during performance analysis in Analytics Dataset. SolutionAdministrator may check need to check the time using the BUI or CLI.
CLI It will always report the time in UTC ( GMT + 0 ) For example : If you check the date on CLI : maintenance logs alert> date
2014-3-27 10:55:41 <<<< This is UTC
maintenance logs alert> show entry-099 2014-3-20 23:26:12 74a7674b-62e2-ca83-d3d0-d11017a647db, The appliance has rejoined the cluster., Minor alert
BUI It will report the time same as the the local system on which browser is opened. So for example if your timezone is GMT+5:30 then for the same alert you will notice different time which will be as per local timezone. So BUI will report maintenance logs alert as below : 2014-3-21 04:56:12 74a7674b-62e2-ca83-d3d0-d11017a647db The appliance has rejoined the cluster. Minor alert
Similarly while checking Analytics and you will see the time on the dataset graph in your local timezone. While reporting an issue to Oracle Support it will be useful if you specifically mention the time of issue in UTC as the logs in support bundle will also report time in UTC.
