DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS WHAT SKILLS DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED?:

Netra T1 AC200/DC200 product training is desirable but not required

TIME ESTIMATE: 40 mins

TASK COMPLEXITY: 1

FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR INSTRUCTIONS:

PROBLEM OVERVIEW: DIMM failure

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?:

If a data backup is not required it is still a wise precaution.

WHAT ACTION DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE?:

Replacing Memory DIMM

Caution – The procedure below is for the attention of qualified service engineers only. Before touching or replacing any components inside the Netra T1 server,
disconnect all cables and follow the instructions to open the server. Always place the server on a grounded ESD pad and wear a properly grounded antistatic wrist strap.

Note - Use only dual inline memory modules (DIMMs) that are specifically designed for the type of server which you are installing memory into

1. Power off your server and open the server unit. Remove the top cover. Make sure you disconnect all power cables and wear an antistatic wrist strap.
2. Locate the wrist strap, and attach its adhesive copper strip to the metal casing of the power supply. Wrap the other end twice around your wrist with the adhesive side against your skin.
3. Unpack the DIMM, holding it only by the edges.
4. Locate the DIMM slots on the motherboard
5. Insert the DIMM into the first vacant socket.

The DIMM “clicks” into place when it is properly seated, as the two retaining clips grip the detents in the sides of the DIMM. If the DIMM is not properly seated, remove it by swinging the two retaining clips outwards until the DIMM is ejected

Note – The DIMMs are designed with two slots cut into the connector. These ensure that you insert the DIMMs the correct way round.

Caution – If you do not seat the DIMM into its slot evenly, it can cause shorts that will damage the system. Ensure that all contacts engage at the same time.

6. Detach the wrist strap and close the system unit. Replace the top cover

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE WHAT ACTION DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE TO
RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:

Boot the system and verify all components are working properly by verifying POST has completed. Logon to root account after booted and running the command # prtdiag ensuring all components present.

The server will automatically detect the additional memory when it is powered on, and configure the system to make use of it.
