Solution

DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS WHAT SKILLS DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED?:

Netra T1 Model 100/105 product training is desirable but not required

TIME ESTIMATE: 50 mins

TASK COMPLEXITY: 1

FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR INSTRUCTIONS:

PROBLEM OVERVIEW: Memory board failure

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?:

If a data backup is not required it is still a wise precaution.

WHAT ACTION DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE?:

Installing and Removing Memory board

Caution – The system contains electronic parts that are extremely sensitive to static
electricity. Do not touch any metal parts. Wear an anti-static wrist strap connected to
an earthing point before you open the system.

Caution – Before attempting to remove the cover, make sure that all power cords and all other cables have been disconnected from the system.

1. Remove the system from the rack.
2. Remove the cover.
3. Slide and lift off the processor cover.
4. Unplug the serial and SCSI cables from the rear I/O board.
5. Remove the screws and washers from the base memory board.
6. Position the new spacers over the screw holes.
7. Position the new memory board above the base memory board
so that the connectors line up.
8. Insert the new part, longer screws through both boards and the intervening spacers.
9. Replace the other components in the reverse order to that in which you removed them

Note – It is recommended that the highest density memory module be fitted closest to the motherboard

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE WHAT ACTION DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE TO
RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:

Boot the system and verify all components are working properly by verifying POST has completed. Logon to root account after booted and running the command # prtdiag ensuring all components present.
