Solution

DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS WHAT SKILLS DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED?:

Netra T1 Model 100/105 product training is desirable but not required

TIME ESTIMATE: 30 mins

TASK COMPLEXITY: 1

FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR INSTRUCTIONS:

PROBLEM OVERVIEW: Disk failure

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?:

The operating system should be configured by the customer such that the disk drive is free for replacement.
e.g. The disk may be part of Solaris Volume Manager, Veritas Volume Manager, mounted file-system, raw partitions, etc.
A data backup may be required to restore data onto a replaced disk.
If a data backup is not required it is still a wise precaution.

The hard disk drives are hot-pluggable modules. You do not need to power down the system or remove it from the rack to install or remove hard disk drives.

WHAT ACTION DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE?:

Installing and Removing Hard Disk drive

1. Remove the front bezel by pressing the latch at either end

2. Lever out the grilles.

3. If you are:
* Installing hard disk drives, slide the disk drive(s) into their trays in the front of the system. Press them firmly to ensure they are engaged with the backplane connector.
* Removing hard disk drives, lift the ejector latch at the front of each disk drive you are removing and pull the drive out.

4. Replace the grilles and front bezel

Note – The Netra t1’s hard disk drives use SCSI IDs 0 and 1. If you are using an external SCSI device, make sure it does not use these SCSI IDs.

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE WHAT ACTION DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE TO
RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:

Boot system and verify functionality. Reconfigure disk as previously configured. e.g. Part of raid set or mounted file-system or raw partition or other. Restart software applications per applicable administration guides to resume system operation.
