Goal

The purpose of this document is to describe how to reset an array to factory defaults using Sun Storage Common Array Manager (CAM).

Resetting a storage array configuration deletes the entire array configuration. In addition, it removes all data from the array and refreshes the settings to factory defaults. Reset the array configuration only to correct errors that cannot be corrected by any other method.

CAUTION: This command is extremely destructive. It will erase all the configuration information including arrayname.

The procedure described below should not be used on a Sun Storage 2500-M2 array. Please contact Oracle Support for assistance to reset the configuration of a 2500-M2 array.  For details, see <Document 1519083.1> Sun Storage Common Array Manager (CAM) Returns the Alarm with Event Code 93.66.9999 and Fault ID 434 for a Sun Storage 2500-M2 Array.

Solution

To reset the array configuration

CAM BUI

  1. Click Sun Storage Common Array Manager.
The navigation pane and the Storage System Summary page are displayed.
  2. In the navigation pane, choose the array whose configuration you want to reset.
    The Administration page is displayed.
  3. Click Reset Configuration.
    The Reset Configuration page displays.
  4. Select Reset Storage Array Configuration and click OK to continue.

CAM CLI

Location of CAM CLI:

Solaris: /opt/SUNWstkcam/bin/sscs
Linux: /opt/sun/cam/bin/sscs
Windows: C:\Program Files\Sun\Common Array Manager\bin\sscs
  1. Login to the CAM server as a user with a storage role using "sscs login"
  2. List the registered arrays using the command "sscs list".
  3. Choose array name and Use the command "sscs reset" to reset the array configuration.

The array will not be available and will be in an error state until the reconfiguration process completes.

When using the sscs CLI, it does not ask for any confirmation for reset.

Syntax:

sscs reset -l <array|volume> array <array-name>

-l,--level <array | volume>
Specifies either array or volume to reset. If volume option is used, only volume information is erased, while array configuration is retained.

Example:

# sscs list array
Array: st6180-array
Array: st6140-array
# sscs reset -l array array st6180-array
