Oracle Database Appliance X3-2 - Version All Versions and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Goal

Can Oracle RDBMS homes be installed separately outside ODA_BASE in Virtual Machines on ODA?

Solution

While it is technically possible, it is not recommended by development at this time for the following reasons:

1: The shared storage performance on VMs other than ODA_BASE is not good (poor) for workloads.

2: The ODA Quarterly patches will only upgrade RDBMS homes that are installed in the ODA_BASE

It is possible that this may change in the future and performance may be improved.

There is no ETA on this.
