Goal
This article describes how to change the Oracle Private Cloud Applicance (PCA) global and WebLogic Server user passwords.
Solution
Prior to version 2.0.5, Oracle Private Cloud Appliance (PCA) was formerly known as Oracle Virtual Compute Appliance (VCA).
Be aware of renamed PCA/VCA executable/URL naming depending on version used.
Oracle Private Cloud Appliance (PCA) comprises various software components, including:
- PCA Dashboard
- Password Manager (wallet)
- Oracle WebLogic Server
- Oracle VM Manager
- Operating systems:
- 2x Management Nodes (Oracle Linux 6 UEK2)
- 2-25x Compute Nodes (Oracle Linux 5 UEK2)
- 1x Sun ZFS Storage Appliance 7320 (Oracle Solaris 11)
- Databases:
- PCA node database
- Oracle Fabric Interconnect database
- PCA Netbundle database
- Oracle Switch ES1-24 Ports database
- PCA DHCP database
- PCA Mini database
- PCA Setup database
- PCA Task database
- PCA Update database
- Oracle VM Manager database
Oracle PCA uses a single global password to access each software component.
The factory default global PCA password is Welcome1.
Oracle strongly recommends users to change the factory default global password during initial PCA installation/configuration/deployment.
PCA passwords may be changed at any time, however.
1. Changing the global PCA/VCA password
- Login to the PCA/VCA Dashboard running on the currently active Management Node (MN) e.g.:
- (PCA) https://<ip>:7002/dashboard (default admin/Welcome1)
- (VCA) https://<ip>:7002/ovca (default ovcaadmin/Welcome1)
- Depending on version used, navigate to:
- (PCA) Authentication tab
- (VCA) Network Setup tab
- Enter the current global PCA/VCA password followed by the new global password
Note that the current global PCA password must be entered before a new global password can be set.
Once updated, the new the global PCA password takes immediate effect system-wide.
The global PCA password is stored in a global Wallet in obfuscated form.
As new expansion Compute Nodes (CNs) are provisioned to the environment, their default password is overwritten with that of the updated global PCA password.
Note that Oracle WebLogic Server (WLS) user passwords cannot be changed via the PCA Dashboard, therefore must be updated separately.
Oracle recommends setting the Oracle WebLogic Server weblogic user password to be the same as the global PCA password.
Whenever the global PCA password is changed, ensure to reset the Oracle WebLogic Server weblogic user password to the same password.
2. Changing the Oracle PCA WebLogic Server weblogic user password
To change the Oracle WebLogic Server weblogic user password:
- Login to the Oracle WebLogic Server Administration Console on the master Management Node (MN) using the global PCA password e.g. https://<IP>:7002/console (default weblogic/Welcome1)
- Click the Lock & Edit button in the Change Center section
- Click Security Realms in the Domain Structure section
- Click the realm name e.g. myrealm
- Click the Users and Groups tab
- Click the weblogic user
- Select the Passwords tab
- Enter then re-enter the new weblogic user password (the global PCA password), then click Save
- Click the Release Configuration button in the Change Center section
- Perform the above procedure against the WebLogic Server instance running on the standby Management Node
