Information in this document applies to any platform.

Goal

How to do bulk move of tapes in and out of an SL8500 managed by ACSLS.

How to rearrange tapes and/or tape drives inside an SL8500 without shutting down ACSLS.
 

Solution

1. Put the ACS in diagnostic mode.
    ACSSA> vary acs acs# diagnostic

2. Perform CSE activity.
    · Enter the Library
    · Remove tapes and drives
    · Clean inside of library, tapes and drives (if needed)
    · Reinstall tapes and drives

3. Clear Database on SL8500.
    · Close SL8500 Door
    · At the SL8500 CLI port issue command
    · SL8500>clear database

4. SL8500 will reboot when the database is cleared.

5. Wait for hardware Audit of the SL8500 to finish.

6. Verify all components of the SL8500 are green and the hardware audit completes.
    · Visually verify all components are fully funtional at the SLC panel.
    · Including all tape drives.

7. Reconfigure the ACS using the dynamic 'config acs' command.
    · At the ACSLS server log in as user 'acsss'
    · From the unix prompt enter
       $ config acs acs#
    · The old and new ACS configurations are displayed.
    · Verify the old and new are the SAME.
    · If the old and new configuration are the same the config utility exits automatically.

8. Audit LSMs 0-3.
    · Begin software audits. One LSM at a time.
    · Start the command proc. From the unix prompt enter
      $  cmd_proc -l
    · Enter Audit command
      ACSSA> audit lsm lsm#
    · Allow audit to complete then start audit on next LSM

9. Audit the ACS.
    · Issue command
      ACSSA> audit acs acs#
    · Allow audit to complete

10. Vary ACS 4 online.
     · Issue command
       ACSSA>vary acs acs# online
