Goal

How can an Oracle Exalytics machine, that is currently configured for Virtualization, be reverted to "bare metal" state?

Solution

You may follow these high level steps to revert Exalytics configured for Virtualization to bare metal state:

Step 1:

Reset RAID configuration as documented in Section 2.1.4 Reconfiguring Existing RAID Configurations on the Exalytics Machine of
Installation and Administration Guide for Oracle Exalytics In-Memory Machine

Step 2:

Download and install the Oracle Exalytics Base Image for the most current Oracle Exalytics Patchset (PS) available on the Oracle Software Delivery site.

Example for Applying Exalytics Patchset 3 (PS3) version, you will:

a) Go to http://edelivery.oracle.com
b) Search for Business Intelligence Product, Linux x86-64 platform.
c) Click radio button to open the Oracle Exalytics Software Media Pack for Linux x86-64, version 1.0.0.3.0
d) Download and install Oracle Exalytics X3-4 Base Image 1.0.0.5 for Linux x86-64

Please note that installing the the above software will only get you to the "bare metal" state (operating system configured as a new system).

Step 3:

Configure network by running Oracle Exalytics Configuration script (exalytics-config-network.sh).
Confirm root and oracle user passwords and ensure that the user installing the software has permissions to /u01 drive.
Verify Configuration of the Exalytics machine like Base Image Version, Software and Hardware configurations.

Step 4:

If you plan to use OBIEE, TimesTen or Essbase on this server, you will need to download the remaining software under the Oracle Exalytics Software Media Pack for Linux x86-64, version 1.0.0.3.0.
Please refer to the Oracle Exalytics Installation and Administration Guide for Oracle Exalytics In-Memory Machine Guide.

NOTE: Refer Reinstalling and Configuring the Oracle Exalytics Patchset 5 Base Image (1.0.0.7) on an Exalytics Machine from Oracle Exalytics In-Memory Machine Installation and Administration Guide for Linux
