Goal

This document describes basic instructions for creating an Initiator which is part of a Multiple Initiator Group.

This is a new feature supported in Appliance Firmware Release 2013.x onwards

Solution

Prior to appliance kit firmware version 2013.x, there was limitation where we can add an initiator only to a single Initiator Group.

We used to get the below message :

Initiator <..> is already in the <..> initiator group (an initiator may only be in a single initiator gorup).

Old Firmware

But with the new firmware release 2013.x, now we can add an initiator to Multiple Initiator Groups.

Details

If you have upgraded the appliance from 2011.x to 2013.x, then deferred updates needs to be applied to make this feature work.

For a new appliance which is preinstalled with 2013.x firmware, it will already have this feature enabled.

Demo Steps :

1.  Go to Configuration > SAN and select either Fibre Channel or iSCSI

2.  Press Add Icon icon for the initiator and add client initiator details.

Similarly add other initiators. eg: Init1, Init2 ...

3.  Now create new Initiator Group, if needed, by Drag and Drop the initiators from "step 2" to the bottom area of the Initiator Group List.

This will create new Initiator Group.

Else, Drag & Drop the initiator to an existing Initiator Group.

4.  You can add same Initiator to Multiple Initiator Groups.
