Goal

This document describes basic instructions for creating a LUN which is part of Multiple Initiator Groups.

This is a new feature supported in Appliance Firmware Release 2013.x onwards.

Prior to Appliance Firmware 2013.x, when an Initiator Group associated with a LUN then only that particular group may access the LUN.

That means only one initiator group at a time can access the particular LUN and at time.

Now with new release of firmware 2013.x, this limitation no longer exists and now we can assign a LUN to Multiple Initiator Groups.

Solution

If you have upgraded the appliance from 2011.x to 2013.x, then deferred updates needs to be applied to make this feature work.

For new appliance which are preinstalled with 2013.x firmware will have this feature enabled.

Demo Steps :

A. During Lun creation :

At the time of Lun creation itself we can add it to multiple Initiator groups.
Go to Shares > LUNs . Press add icon icon to create a new Lun. Then select multiple Initiator group(s) by pressing the Ctrl Key of the keyboard.

     Create Lun

B. From the LUN properties:

Go to Shares > LUN > Edit > Protocols
Now Edit the "Initiator group: LU number" and select multiple initiator groups for the given LUN.

     Edit Lun Properties
