Goal

When to do this?

Sometimes you would have configured the SNMP Trap Forwarding on Exadata compute nodes and would like to test the SNMP traps would be delivered to the EM agent running on the Exadata compute nodes. In such case, you could try these steps to test the SNMP trap forwarding.

Solution

The SNMP trap forwarding test can be done through KVM, however if the KVM is not present then this can be done alternatively with IB switch.

  1. Using KVM
  1. Using IB switch

          - Connect to the IB Switch ILOM cli

           ssh ilom-admin@{switch name or IP address}

          - Execute below commands.

           -> cd /SP/alertmgmt/rules/3

           -> set destination=<COMPUTE_NODE_IP>

           -> set level=minor

           -> set /SP/alertmgmt/rules/3 testrule=true

           - Check that snmptrapd logs messages in the /var/log/messages file from the IP address of the IB Switch.
