Solution Type Technical Instruction Sure Solution 1606439.1 : Pillar Axiom: How to review MaxRep licensing
Understanding and reviewing the MaxRep licensing. In this Document
Created from <SR 3-8160968421> Applies to:Pillar Axiom Replication Engine (MaxRep) - Version 2.0 to 2.0 [Release 2.0]Information in this document applies to any platform. GoalHow to understand and review MaxRep licensing. SolutionThe license is based on the mac address of eth0 for all Engines in the config. The license is applied to the Control Service (MaxRep Engine hosting the Admin website), which is generally the remote Engine at the target site when using Async configurations, and is the first Engine installed in the configuration. When the second Engine (Process Service only – not a Control Service) is installed, you must point it to the Control service. The license applied to the CS is all that is required – there is no need to apply a separate license to the PS Engine. Note: There is never a need to open the GUI to an Engine that is not the Active Control Service. This will only lead to confusion and contemplating “why is it different?” On the UI on the active control service, go to the initial monitor summary screen and ensure that you have one CS listed, and one PS for each Engine in the configuration (including the Control Service). If there are two Engines in the config, you should see 1 CS and 2 PS. If there are 3 Engines in the config, you should see 1 CS and 3 PS. Next, confirm the CS and all PS are green. Next, go to the Setup tab and go to License Management. In that screen, confirm that the mac for eth0 for each of the Engines in the config is listed. If any are missing or are incorrect, please work with license management to correct.
NOTE: Make sure you understand that by applying or re-applying a license (to replicate more storage); the existing configuration will be lost. Make sure that a backup of the configuration is performed prior to applying a license or all protection plans will need to be re-created. You can backup the Protection Plans configuration by going to Settings -> Replication Engine Settings and click on the Backup button (you can restore later from the same page).
The backup file has an 'amc' extension; older files can be found in the /backup FileSystem on each engine if a Local Backup is set up (Oracle Support will retrieve the files for you).
