How to replace a Acme Packet 4250 chassis

Solution

DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS

This task relates to service of an ACME PACKET product. Parts specified in this task should be delivered using a cost effective next day delivery method, and may require to be back ordered from a Tier 1 location. The Planned End Date should be set to a time on the second business day to enable this, unless specific instructions from the TSC engineer indicate otherwise.

Acme Packet NN4250 Training.

Note: #2 Philips is required

FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR INSTRUCTIONS:

PROBLEM OVERVIEW:

Acme Packet 4250 Chassis Replacement

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :

A data backup is not a prerequisite, but is a wise precaution.

If the system is still up and functioning, customer should perform an orderly and graceful shutdown of applications, OS and logically removing the Acme Packet 4250 system from the network. Then power off the server and remove the power cords and all other cabling from the system.

Note:The replacement chassis does not contain a security module (SSM), 256K CAM card, or add-on memory.  These items need to be removed from the failed unit and installed into the replacement chassis.

WHAT ACTION DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE?:

Prepare the server for service

  1. Power off the Net-Net 4250 platform and disconnect all cabling
    1. Remove the screws that secure platform to the rack
    2. Gently slid the unit forward and out of the rack
    3. Place chassis on anti-static pad/workbench
    4. Remove physical interface cards and the two power supplies and place aside for insertion into replacement chassis
    5. Remove the Left/Right mounting ears

Opening chassis

  1. Attach an anti-static wrist strap
    1. Remove the Left/Right mounting ears
    2. Unscrew the two countersunk screws on each side of the Net-Net 4250. These hold the chassis cover to the chassis
    3. Place both palms on the rear of the chassis lid. Press down and rearward  to compress the EMI gasket and disengage the lid
    4. Lift chassis lid off a set aside.

  • Note: The chassis lid is tightly secured to the chassis, a moderate amount of force is needed to disengage the lid

Locating the SSM, 256K CAM card, and Memory DIMM

SSM card

      1. The SSM2 card is located between the Graphic Display and the power supply bay.  It is attached to the motherboard with four screws and three connectors
      2. Remove the four screws and gently lift up on the SSM card to disconnect it from the motherboard

256K CAM card

      1. The 256K CAM card is located behind the physical interface card slots and the power supply bay.
      2. Remove the four screws and gently lift up on the CAM card, disconnecting it from the motherboard

Replacement chassis includes the original 256K CAM module, 002-0403-51.  Customer may have purchased upgrade CAM, 002-0514-50

Memory DIMM

    1. The two memory DIMM slots are located between the two power supply bays, closest to power supply 0.

    2. Remove the memory by placing a finger on each white DIMM slot ejector clip.  Simultaneously push them outward, ejecting the DIMM stick

 

Install these devices in the replacement chassis

4. Installing top lid

  1. Locate the four tabs on the chassis lid
  2. Inset the tabs into the four slot located on the chassis
  3. Push the lid downward and toward the front of the chassis in one sweeping motion.  Opposite motion from removing it.
  4. Install the four (2 each side) screws that secure the chassis cover to the chassis
  5. Install the Left/Right mounting ears

 

5: Install the  physical interface card and power supplies that were set aside earlier

6. Install chassis into rack

    1. Remove any anti-static measures that were used
    2. Slide Net-Net 4250 back into the rack.
    3. Secure unit to rack by re-installing mounting screws
    4. Re-install the power cords and any data cables that were disconnected

7. Power on server. Verify that the Power/OK indicator led lights steady on. Memory is validated at boot time "total processor memory: xxxxMB"

 

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE

WHAT ACTION DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE?:

A: Legacy customer will need to request a new license key to enable the software to function correctly. License keys are tied to the chassis serial number.

  1. Navigate to the following url

  1. Select "Request License Codes" located at the top-right side of the web page
  2. Fill out the required fields
  3. In the "Notes" section, labelled "How can we help you"  Include the following information

- Old and new chassis serial number

 - License Key for existing system

- SR (Service Request) number that was assigned for this issue

- Software name/revision

  1. New license keys will be sent within 24 hours

B: Restore the boot image and configuration setting on the replacement system
