How To  Replace A  Disk Drive Backplane In A Oracle ZS3-2

DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS

- WHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER NEED:
Training and experience with ZS3-x hardware and Appliance software
Netra Server X3-2 Service Manual and HW knowledge

- TIME ESTIMATE:  30  minutes

- TASK COMPLEXITY:  1

- PROBLEM OVERVIEW
What:  The disk backplane
Where: < Chassis S/N  of the  device to be inserted here by SR owner>
Why :  <why is it being replaced to be inserted here by SR owner>

REPLACEMENT INSTRUCTIONS

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?
In Single Head configurations the NAS will need to be powered off
 
WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
1. Review safety and handling information.
2. Gather the tools for service.
3. Consider filler panel options.
4. Find the server serial number.
5. Locate the component service information.
6. Identify the server to be serviced.
7. Shut down the OS and power off the server.
8. Move the server out of the rack and open the top cover.

Removal of the Disk Drive backplane.

1, Review this information and complete these prerequisites in this order.
2, Remove the Filter
3, Remove all drives.
4, Remove the DVD Drive if present ( not normally in NAS Appliances )
5, Remove all fan modules.
6, Remove the Fan Tray
7, Raise the Drive Cage to the Service Position
8, Remove the five screws from the drive backplane.
9. Set the drive backplane aside.

Installation of Replacement Disk Drive backplane.

1, Position the drive backplane to where it will install into the chassis
2, Install and tighten the five screws.
3 ,Secure the Drive Cage
4, Install the Fan Tray  
5, Install all fan modules.
6, Install the DVD Drive  ( not normally in NAS Appliances )
7, Install all drives.
8, Install the Filter
9, Returning the Server to Operation

Verify the Drive Backplane Installation.

After you install the drive backplane, you can verify its functionality.
1. Access Oracle ILOM.
2. Reset the drive backplane.

-> set /SYS/DBP clear_fault_action=true
Are you sure you want to clear /SYS/DBP (y/n)? y
Set ’clear_fault_action’ to ’true’
->

3. Verify that the drive backplane is no longer considered faulty, then return to this procedure.

-> show faulty

4. Verify that the installed drives are recognized.

-> show /SYS/DBP

WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:

In single head configurations that any faults are marked repaired  after the NAS is booted up and for Cluster similar once the stripped head is up and before services failed back.

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE : Liaise with customer that replacing disk back plane part has resolved the problem.

PARTS NOTE:

Please refer to the FE handbook for all Disk Backplane part number for confirmation of correct type.
