Goal

What number should max-channels in h323-stack configuration be?

Solution

The max-channels is to limit the maximum number of channels which can be opened for each call. The main purpose of the parameter is its use in PVT memory calculation. In an audio only call, 2 channels will normally be opened. One is for RTP and and another is for RTCP. If a t38 fax is to use the different channels, another pair of channels is needed for t38. So, when planning for audio only, it's recommended to configure max-channels to 4. When video is possibly involved in calls, another 2 channels are needed for video, which makes up 6 channels in total. So, it's necessary to define max-channels as 6.
