TIME ESTIMATE: 10 minutes

TASK COMPLEXITY: 0

FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR INSTRUCTIONS:

PROBLEM OVERVIEW: REPLACING A NETWORK INTERFACE UNIT CARD

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :

Replacing a NIU card can be accomplished without removing power from the Acme Packet 3820 though when possible it's recommended to power the unit off before performing this task.

Note: After NIU replacement, the system must be soft-rebooted to return the Acme Packet 3820 to production status

Animation videos are available to demonstrate the replacement procedure for these servers. please refer to the following links:

Please also refer to the "link" detailed instruction on "NIU card" replacement.

WHAT ACTION DOES THE  ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE:

1. Prepare the NIU card for service.

  1. Ground yourself using the appropriate ESD grounding equipment, wrist or heel strap is recommended.
  2. Unplug all network and management cables from NIU card.

2. Removing NIU card

  1. Unscrew the two captive  thumb screws that are located on each side of the NIU card with a #2 Phillips screwdriver.
  2. Pivot the two ejection levers outward at the same time. This will disconnect the NIU card from the motherboard.
  3. Gently pull the card out of the system chassis by holding on to each side of the NIU's front panel.

Note: Place the removed NIU card on or within an antistatic bag while it remains outside the chassis.

3  Replacing NIU card

  1. Ensure that the ejection levers on the replacement card are in the open/extended position

Note: The NIU card rides on the two flared guide rails

  1. Align the NIU card with the two guide rails and gently push the NIU card into the open NIU slot.
  2. Continue sliding the card into the chassis until the ejection levers catch the chassis.  The ejection levers will start to fold inward at this point.
  3. Fully fold both ejection levers inward toward the card to complete the connection to the motherboard.
  4. Secure the NIU card to the chassis by turning the captive screws clock-wise until snug

Replace all network and management cabling

WHAT ACTION DOES THE ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE?:
