FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :

The fan module is a hot-swappable item.  You must have a replacement fan available before starting this procedure.

WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE:

1. Prepare the server for service.

  1. Ground yourself using the appropriate ESD grounding equipment, wrist or heel strap is recommended.

2. Removing Fan Tray Assembly

  1. Press two fingers against the left end of the steel fan bezel and pull directly toward you.
  2. Set the fan bezel aside
  3. Pinch the black foam air filter at one of the corners and pull directly away from the chassis
  4. Unscrew the two captive screws at each end of the fan tray assembly, #2 Phillips
  5. Holding the fan tray assembly pull tab, pull the module directly toward you.  This action may require a firm tug.
  6. Set fan tray assembly aside

3  Replacing Fan Tray Assembly

  1. Align the Fan Tray Assembly with the power connector
  2. Holding the pull tab, insert the Fan Tray squarely into the chassis.  The Fan Tray should lay flush with the chassis panel
  3. Secure the Fan Tray by using the two captive screws

*Ensure that you hear the fans spinning and feel air being pulled into the chassis before continuing

  1. Replace the black foam air filter, ensuring that the center slot is aligned over the pull tab
  2. Insert the tab on the right-side of the fan bezel into the control panel slot and pivot the fan bezel back toward the chassis until the left-side clips snap unto the chassis
