FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :

If the system is still up and functioning, customer should perform an orderly and graceful shutdown of applications and OS.  Then power off the server and remove the AC power cords from the system.

A data backup is not a prerequisite but is a wise precaution.

WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:

1. Prepare the server for service.

  1. Power off the server and disconnect the power cords from the power supplies.
  2. Extend the server to the maintenance position in the rack.
  3. Attach an anti-static wrist strap.
  4. Remove the top cover

2. Disconnect any external cables attached to any PCIe3 cards installed in the riser.

3. Fully loosen the two captive screws securing the riser to the motherboard.

4. Lift the riser straight up and out of its socket on the motherboard.

5. If you have not already done so, disconnect any internal cables attached to the PCIe3 cards installed in the riser.

6. Remove any installed PCIe3 cards from the riser.

7. Remove the two screws securing the printed circuit board to the riser bracket.

8. Lift the printed circuit board out of the riser bracket and set the board aside.

9. Repeat from Step 3 for any additional risers to be removed.

10. Position the printed circuit board to the location where it installs into the riser bracket.

11. Install and tighten the two screws securing the board to the riser bracket.

12. If any PCIe3 card was previously removed from the riser, install it.

13. Align the riser to the location where it installs into the chassis.

14. Reconnect any previously removed internal cables to any PCIe3 cards installed in the riser, if doing so will ease installation of the riser.

15. Lower the riser card onto the motherboard and press the card edge connector securely into the socket.

20. Reconnect the external cables you previously disconnected.

 21. Install the remaining parts in the following order:

  1. Replace the top cover
  2. Remove any anti-static measures that were used.
  3. Return the server to it's normal operating position within the rack.
  4. Re-install the AC power cords and any data cables that were removed.
  5. Power on server. Verify that the Power/OK indicator led lights steady on.
