SL150 LTO4 physical external labels LTO5 carts GoalCan i put LTO4 external labels onto an LTO5 cartridge in the SL150 Library? SolutionA tape physically labelled with an LTO4 external label but which is really an LTO5 tape *will* work in an LTO5 drive. The external label is primarily for human use. How the tape is used by the system really depends on how it logs into the application. If it logs in as LTO4 it will be used as LTO4 and if it logs in as an LTO5 it will be used as an LTO5. Tapes written as LTO4 can be read by LTO5 drives. The customer should though use the correct labels on the tapes (L5, LV or CU). The customer could load L4 media into the library and use that ok , but there may be unforeseen future problems when applying the L4 labels onto L5 media. For any future SRs raised you would always be advised to use the correct labels for the media type. Support may be affected until this is achieved. In addition, tapes labelled as L4 ejected from the SL150 may cause issues for other drives/libraries. This practice should be discouraged. Attachments This solution has no attachment |
