- TIME ESTIMATE: 45 minutes
- TASK COMPLEXITY: 0

FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS:
- PROBLEM OVERVIEW: Failed/Faulty  SAS Controller HBA
- WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?:
Customer should perform an orderly and graceful shutdown of applications and OS. A data backup is not a pre-requisite but is a wise precaution.

- WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:

Step I: Remove the SAS Controller HBA

1. Power off the server and unplug (REMOVE) the power cords from power supplies and remove the top cover.

2. Locate the SAS controller HBA on the PCI mezzanine.

3. Remove the two SAS cables connected to the HBA.

4. Use a No. 2 Phillips screwdriver to loosen the two retainers, and rotate the retainers away from the card.

5. Use a No. 2 Phillips screwdriver to remove the screw securing the HBA to the PCI mezzanine. Save this screw for when you install a SAS controller HBA in the slot.

6. Slide the card to the left and lift it out of the PCI mezzanine. Set the card aside on an antistatic mat.

Step II: Install the SAS Controller HBA

1. In the far-right HBA slot, use a No. 2 Phillips screwdriver to loosen the retainers and remove the securing screw.

2. Remove the replacement SAS controller HBA from its packaging and place it onto an antistatic mat.

3. Lower the SAS HBA into position on the PCI mezzanine, and then slide the card to the right to seat it into the connector.

4. Tighten the appropriate card securing screws and retainers.

5. Connect the two SAS cables to the SAS controller HBA.

6. Return the server to operation.

- WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
Boot up system and verify full functionality. Check the SAS Controller HBA getting inside the BIOS controller.
