 DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS
- WHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER NEED: No specific skills required
- TIME ESTIMATE: 30 minutes
- TASK COMPLEXITY: 0

FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS:
- PROBLEM OVERVIEW: Faulty power supply

- WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:

Caution – Safety agency requirements prohibit changing a system from AC input to DC input or from DC input to AC input after the product has been removed from the agency approved manufacturing site.

Step I: Remove a Power Supply

1. Identify which power supply requires replacement.

The following LEDs are lit when a power supply fault is detected:
■ Front and rear Service Required LEDs.
■ Amber Fault LED on the faulty power supply.

A lighted amber LED on a power supply indicates that a failure was detected. You can also use the ILOM show faulty command at the sc> prompt.

Note – The fans of a failed power supply may still be spinning when the system is powered on. The failed power supply is still okay to remove.

2. Log in to the ILOM service processor as root.
Refer to the ILOM 3.0 documentation for instructions.

3. At the ILOM prompt (->), type the stop /SYS/PSn command.
The stop command indicates if it is okay to perform a hot removal of a power supply. This command does not perform any action, but it provides a warning if the power supply should not be removed because the other power supply is not providing power to the server.
For example:

-> stop /SYS/PSn
Are you sure you want to remove PSn [y/n]? y
<PSn> is safe to remove.

In this command, PSn is the identifier for the power supply you plan to remove, either PS0 or PS1.

4. Disconnect the power cord from the faulty power supply.

5. Grasp the power supply handle and push the power supply latch to the right.

6. Pull the power supply out of the chassis.

Caution – To maintain system cooling and EMI requirements, you must replace the power supply immediately.

Step II: Install a Power Supply

Caution – Never mix AC and DC power supplies in the same system. Catastrophic system damage will occur. Always replace the failed power supply with the same type of power supply.

Caution – Safety agency requirements prohibit changing a system from AC power supplies to DC power supplies or from DC power supplies to AC power supplies after the product has been removed from the agency approved manufacturing site.

1. Remove the replacement power supply from its packaging and place it on an antistatic mat.

2. Align the replacement power supply with the empty power supply bay.

3. Slide the power supply into the bay until it is fully seated. Listen for the audible click when the power supply fully seats.

4. Reconnect the power cord to the power supply.

5. Verify that the amber LED on the replaced power supply and the service required LEDs are not lit.

6. Log in to the ILOM service processor as root.

7. At the ILOM prompt (->), type the show /SYS/PSn command to verify the status of the power supplies. In this command, PSn is the identifier for the power supply you plan to remove, either PS0 or PS1.

8. Clear error messages in the system Please check the document section C - Post-Repair Procedures from the document: PSH Procedural Article for ILOM-Based Diagnosis Doc: 1155200.1.

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE

- WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
See the server is working properly and the service LED is off.
