Solution

FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS:
- PROBLEM OVERVIEW: Failed/Faulty Power Distribution Board


- WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?:
If the system is still up and functioning, customer should perform an orderly and graceful shutdown of applications and OS. A data backup is not a pre-requisite but is a wise precaution.

- WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:

Step I: Remove the Power Distribution Board

1. Power off the server and unplug (REMOVE) the power cords from power supplies and remove the top cover.

2. Remove the following components to expose the power distribution board:
■ Remove a Power Supply.
■ Remove the Optical Media Drive.
■ Remove a Drive.
■ Remove Fan Tray 0.
■ Remove Fan Tray 2.
■ Remove the Media Bay Assembly.

3. Disconnect the four cables from the power distribution board.

4. Remove the screws that secure the power distribution board to the chassis. There are five screws that secure the power distribution board to the chassis, and four screws that connect it to the bus bar.

5. Lift the power distribution board out of the chassis and set it aside on an antistatic mat.

 

Step II: Install the Power Distribution Board

1. Remove the replacement power distribution board from its packaging and place it on an antistatic mat.

2. Lower the power distribution board into the chassis, aligning the board’s holes with the standoffs in the chassis.

3. Install the screws firmly to secure the power distribution board to the chassis. There are five screws that secure the power distribution board to the chassis, and four screws that connect it to the bus bar.

4. Connect the four cables to the power distribution board.

5. Install the following components:
■ Install the Media Bay Assembly.
■ Install Fan Tray 2.
■ Install Fan Tray 0.
■ Install a Drive.
■ Install the Optical Media Drive.
■ Install a Power Supply.

6. Replace the main cover and re-connect the power cords.

7. Clear error messages in the system Please check the document section C - Post-Repair Procedures from the document: PSH Procedural Article for ILOM-Based Diagnosis Doc: 1155200.1.

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE

- WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
Boot up system and verify full functionality.
