Goal

How to add a new license on a 3000 or 4000 series SBC.

Solution

Follow the procedure below when adding licenses:

  1. Add new licenses to both SBCs
  2. Save + activate on the active SBC
  3. Reboot standby, then check that the 'display-c' and 'display-r' versions on both systems are the same.
  4. If the config versions are the same, and show health shows everything sync'd, make the newly rebooted system active
  5. Reboot previously active system

To add a license you must go into the configuration branch->system branch-> license branch and enter 'add' then the license key

EX:

TACSD# conf t
TACSD(configure)# system
TACSD(system)# license
TACSD(license)# add 'license key here'

You can then use the show command to verify that the license was installed.

TACSD(license)# show
License #1: 32000 sessions, SIP, MGCP, H323, IWF, QOS, ACP,
Routing, Load Balancing, Accounting, High Availability, PAC, LI, External BW Mgmt, External Policy Services, ENUM
no expiration
installed at 21:47:11 FEB 17 2009
Total session capacity: 32000
TACSD(license)#

Note: if the output of the show command displays two different licenses, you might need to remove the one you don't need using command no
