Goal

If an Exalytics system will be used for EPM applications only (without TimesTen or OBIEE), can hugepages be reconfigured?
If hugepages variables are altered, will it adversely affect EPM applications?

Solution

The hugepages parameters on Exalytics are modified during installation to allow optimal use of TimesTen.  The settings are described in the Exalytics Installation Guide, see 4.5 Configuring Memory Settings on the Server.

If you will not be using TimesTen or OBIEE on this Exalytics server, it is perfectly okay to reconfigure the hugepages parameters in the /etc/sysctl.conf file to a basic default value.
The minimum value (when TimesTen is not in use) is 256 GB.
By reducing the hugepages parameter, you will have additional free memory for other applications on your Exalytics server.
