zfs_receive failed: cannot receive incremental stream: most recent snapshot of pool- does not match incremental source

Goal

Replication failed between projects with the following message:

zfs_receive failed: cannot receive incremental stream: most recent snapshot of pool-<share or project name>does not match incremental source

Solution

The replication fails with the following error messages in the log files (alerts.ak):

ak_errmsg = zfs_receive failed: cannot receive incremental stream: most recent snapshot of pool-<share or project name> does not match incremental source

This error can be for Projects, or in this case example, for Share Replications. To correct the issue (upgrading to the 2013.1.0.1 - or later - Appliance Firmware Release should resolve the issue), please follow the action plan below:

Part 1 : The Target NAS

On the target you need to severe the replication from the project level because you cannot do this from the share section.

This should be ok as share level replication on the target should have, under each project, a share as its own project

Select the project and select Replication

NOTE: The package will tell you the last sync date for reference

Now sever replication and save with whatever name you like, example severed-<share-name>

This will make a local project - this is your safeguard backup ( example name it safeguard-<share-name> )

Replication is no longer enabled from the Source to the Target for this share.

Part 2 : The Source NAS

On the Source go to the share <share-name> and remove/destroy the replication package ( 'trash can' it )

It has failed anyway and make sure that Actions = none.

The next step is to make a new replication.

Add Replication Action.

Add Target and schedule as required.

And then once connected to the Target test with a manual Replication.

Part 3 : The Target NAS

Check that the Project/Share exists

Now the replication should work as normal.
