Goal

  How to boot from an ISO image file using the ILOM Remote Console.

Solution

1. Download the patch which you will need to use from the tab Patches & Updates within MOS.
2. Open a browser and type the Service Processor's IP. You will be presented with a login window similar to below:

3. Go to the tab "Remote Contro"l -> "Redirection" and click on "Launch Remote Console". This will display a popup window, which will let you see the server.

4. On this new window, go to the "Devices" option and from the dropdown list select "CD-ROM Image".

5. Attach the ISO image file.

6. Now go to the tab "Remote Control" -> "Host Control" and from the dowpdown list "Next Boot Device" select BIOS and click on "Save".

7. Then in the tab "Remote Control" -> "Remote Power Control", select "Power Cycle" from dropdown list and click on "Save". This will display a popup window with the message "Are you sure you want to perform a Power Cycle of the server?". Click on "OK". This will reboot the server and initiate the BIOS.

8. You will see the BIOS win the window from step 3. Then go to the "Boot Menu" -> "Boot Device Priority".

9. On this menu, select the "Virtual CDROM" and place it on the top of the list. Some platforms and configurations may differ from the details shown.

10. Once you have completed step 7, press "ESC" to traverse back a screen, then select the "Exit" tab and then select "Save Changes and Exit". You will get a popup window with the message "Save configuration changes and exit setup?, select OK". Wait for a couple of minutes and then you will see the server booting from the ISO image file.
